Minister of Law and Order, Sagala Ratnayake questioned as to how the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), which can't even prepare a nomination list for the local council election, could rule the country.

The Minister asked this question in Deniyaya, whilst on an inspection tour of the site of a proposed 500-bed hospital in the area. He added that the work on the hospital will start in the first quarter of 2018.

"We also need to talk about the rejection of the SLPP nomination lists. In some cases when the responsible officer was there, another person had signed the nomination list. In some lists the names are wrong, and in some case the signatures were incorrect," he said.

He added that the SLPP is full of incompetent people who can't even prepare a nomination list. "People who can't even compile a nomination list for a local government election are trying to lead a country," he said.

Six Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) nomination lists, for the upcoming Local Government elections, were rejected by election officials last week. Among the rejected SLPP lists were the Agalawatta Pradeshiya Sabha, the Badulla Urban Council, the Mahiyanganaya Pradeshiya Sabha, the Panadura Urban Council, the Maharagama Urban Council and the Weligama Urban Council.
The SLPP list for the Maharagama Urban Council was rejected due to the lack of the mandatory percentage of female candidates.
