The Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) will inform the Government Medical Officers' Association (GMOA) about their stance on the South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITM) in the coming days, GMOA Secretary, Dr. Haritha Aluthge told Ceylon Today.

He added, that representatives from the GMOA and BASL met last week, and the BASL requested the GMOA to provide them with all the documents about the history of SAITM, how the case against the institution was filed, and how the judicial process took place.

"We met them as a part of our initiative to inform other professional bodies and trade unions about SAITM. GMOA representatives told the BASL about the impact SAITM will have on students of State universities, the education system and patients," he said.

The GMOA Secretary added that the BASL was highly concerned about the impact SAITM will have on the rights of patients. The BASL agreed to discuss the SAITM issue at their meeting last Friday and inform the GMOA about their stance on the issue in the coming days.

"The BASL might also make a public statement about SAITM this week. And we expect that they will inform us about their decision in the coming days," he said.
