Nuwara Eliya local lad D.G. Jayasena caused a mild upset on the first day of the Match-play format when he defeated sixth seed Navinda Ranga on the 19th hole at the 130th Sri Lanka Amateur Golf Championship being played at the Nuwara Eliya Golf Course yesterday. Jayasena was 1 down going to the 18th pulled off a vital birdie to square the match and forced the match down the 19th.

In the other matches the top four seeds went through to the second round.

Kartik Sharma (India) the Number 1 seed defeated Ishan Dilranga of the Sri Lanka Navy 4 & 2 to meet Priya Hemantha from Victoria Golf & Country Resort in the 2nd Round.

Seed # 2 N. Amarapadma brushed aside

T Akash 7 & 5. Sisira Kumara 3rd Seed beat K.G.B. Ratnayake 6 & 5, whilst the 4th seeded Dhruv Sheoran from India had a comfortable 5 & 4 win over Selvakumar of RCGC.

2 rounds of the 2nd Round and the quarter-final are be worked off in the morning and afternoon respectively today.
