CT Sports: Sri Lanka's Davis Cup player Sharmal Dissanayake used all his experience to defeat another former Davis Cup player Sankha Athukorale 6/0, 6/0 to clinch the Men's Open Singles crown at the 102nd National Tennis Championships played at the SLTA courts, Sir Marcus Fernando Mawatha yesterday.

The score-line relates how dominant Dissanayake was as he did not give away a single point to Athukorale. After just competing against strong opposition in the recently concluded Davis Cup ties, Dissanayake found Athukorale easy meat to completely dominate proceedings. The young Dissanayake, who has beaten some of the best in the sport recently, was filled with energy to completely overcome an older Athukorale who just could not keep up with the pace maintained by Dissanayake.

Previously, Athukorale beat young and talented Yasitha de Silva in one semi-final 6/2, 7/6(4) while Sharmal Dissanayake played impeccable tennis to overwhelm Rustom Ali 6/1, 6/0 in the other semi-final and found easy passage to the final.

In the junior category Venuka Kitnula secured the U-12 boys title when he defeated Vichinta Nilaweera 6-0, 6-1 in the final worked off in the morning.

U-14 girls title was taken by Anjalika Kurera from Ave Maria Negombo beating Oneli Perera 6-1, 6-2 in the final while the U-14 boys title was won by Chathurya Nilaweera when he secured a win over Prasanjith Kannangara 7/6(3), 2/6, 6/2.
