CT Sports: Sri Lanka had their best first day in the series as they claimed six wickets for 141 runs in 51 overs following a mammoth opening stand of 188 in the third and final Test that started at Pallekele yesterday.

Shikar Dhawan scored his second century in the series, and along with opening partner Lokesh Rahul (85) helped with two dropped catches, put on a mammoth 188 runs opening stand. Thereafter, left arm spinner Malinda Pushpakumara led the fight back capturing three wickets with chinaman Lakshan Sandakan claiming two wickets. India finished the day on 329 runs for six with W.P. Saha and Hardik Pandaya at the crease.

Dhawan led the partnership just as he did in both Tests as he brought up his second Test ton of the series, 6th overall, scoring 119 off 123 deliveries which includes 17 fours. He was finally caught by Dinesh Chandimal off Pushpakumara in his third delivery of the match which was 40th over.

Lokesh Rahul was dropped twice before he was finally caught at mid-on by Dimuth Karunaratne off Pushapkumara for 85. Rahul was first missed by Lahiru Kumara while he was on 28 at mid-on off Dimuth Karunaratne. Then neither Mathews nor wicket keeper Niroshan Dickwella could catch an edge off the bowling of Lakshan Sandakan when Rahul was on 67.

Cheteshwar Pujara was sent back soon after for just eight as Mathews took a good catch at first slip off Lakshan Sandakan. Ajinkya Rahane too could not make much out of it as Pushpakumara bowled him out for 17 leaving India four down for 264.

Skipper Virath Kohli added 42 runs before being removed by Sandakan as he edged one to Karunaratne at slip. Ravichandran Ashwin was the last man to go when Vishwa Fernando claimed his first wicket bowling with the second new ball where Karunaratne at first slip held on to a sharp catch.

Using of reviews was poor by Sri Lankans when they reviewed an appeal for lbw of Ashwin in the 85th over. Replays showed it was hitting middle of the bat before it hit the pad.

Sri Lanka went for the match with five bowlers and six batsmen. Sandakan, Dilruwan Perera, Pushpakumara, Fernando and Kumara made the five bowlers. Dhananjaya de Silva was dropped while Nuwan Pradeep and Ranagan Herath were not included in the squad due to injuries.

India did just one change bringing in chinaman Kuldeep Yadav in for Ravindra Jadeja who is serving a ban.
