FIRST Global launched the world's first 'International Robotics Olympiad' for high school students this year.

The event took place in Washington DC from 16 to 18 July. 167 nations participated in the event, with each nation represented by one robotics team.

Elizabeth Moir School represented Sri Lanka, and the team included Ishini Gammanpila, Akash Gnanam, Ali Anver and Vinidu Jayasekera. The students participated in group challenges in which their robot performed tasks that measured its ability to differentiate between clean and dirty water.

The ultimate goal of the robot was to provide access to clean and potable water in a real world scenario. They performed well, doing their country proud and gaining an enriching and invaluable life experience.
