The Code of Criminal Procedure (Special Provisions) Amendments Bill and the Regulation under the Judicature Act was withdrawn by the Government in Parliament yesterday.

Leader of the House Lakshman Kiriella announced the withdrawal of the two pieces of legislation.

Regulation under the Judicature Act states that all prosecutions, proceedings or matters in respect of offences under the Atomic Energy Act must be taken up only in the Colombo High Court.

The Code of Criminal Procedure (Special Provisions) Amendment Bill seeks to ensure the rights of an Attorney who represents a person held in Police custody and was presented to the House on 25 May 2017. (SG)
