CMEV slams political parties
By Ruwan Laknath Jayakody
The elections monitoring body, the Centre for Monitoring Election Violence (CMEV), which lamented the lack of a political discourse on innovative approaches with regard to conducting electoral campaigning under the existing COVID-19 situation, criticised political parties for allegedly not exploring low budget options in this connection.
Guidelines issued by the health authorities with regard to conducting electoral campaigning precludes holding rallies and meetings owing to measures such as social distancing, which are to be strictly maintained to prevent potential community-based COVID-19 infections.
Speaking to Ceylon Today, National Coordinator of the CMEV, Manjula Gajanayake also took on the Election Commission for not initiating the discourse focusing on alternatives to these.
