Member of the Colombo Port City Economic Commission, Secretary to the Ministry of Water Supply, Dr. Priyath Bandu Wickrema told Ceylon Today that Sri Lankan youths, who receive job opportunities at the Colombo Port City, will receive a salary of at least US Dollars 1,000 and salaries will increase according to the nature of the job. Accordingly, they will be given an opportunity to earn from USD 1,000 to 1,500, 2,000 and 3,000 and maybe even more depending on the type of job. 

He pointed out that during the initial 5-10 years 83,000 job opportunities will be created but during the first two years about 10,000 will be given jobs. The basic buildings will be constructed within the first two years and the youth community of this country will receive a number of job opportunities in the field of construction. Subsequently, after the two years, offices and institutions will be established and many jobs will be available in relation to those, Dr. Wickrema added. 

He also said that there is a possibility that attention will be focused more on youth who have a good education with knowledge in computers, information technology and those who are proficient in the English language. Dr. Wickrema also pointed out that banks, hospitals, universities, computer institutions, information technology organisations, institutions of higher education, various offices, organisations providing various types of services, hotels, conference halls, leisure parks, sports activities, shopping complexes as well as a number of other organisations and offices of international companies will be set up at the Colombo Port City and that job opportunities here will mainly be granted to the youth of Sri Lanka. 

A policy decision had been taken by the Government recently that 75 per cent of job opportunities in the Colombo Port City should be given to the youth of this country and the relevant proposal had been submitted by Minister of Sports and Youth Affair, Digital Technology and Enterprise Development State Minister, Namal Rajapaksa.
