The Education Ministry hopes to reopen schools in the Western Province on 15 February, after receiving approval from health authorities, Education Ministry Secretary, Prof. Kapila Perera said.
A discussion between principals, health and education officials on reopening Western Province schools, will be held on either 28 or 29 January, or 1 February.
Prof. Perera said, the Education Ministry should act on the advice of health authorities. The recommendations of health authorities will be sent to the Director General of Health Services before 3 February, and based on his guidelines, Western Province schools will reopen.
There are 1,576 schools within 11 Zonal areas in the Western Province, while 79,000 students are scheduled to face the G.C.E. Ordinary Level Examination in March. The health authorities agreed to open 907 schools in the Western Province from 25 January, for those facing the O/L Examination this year.
