Work From Home Outfit Ideas
By Sadira Sittampalam
With the pandemic situation getting worse, lots of people are going back to working from home. However, while there are advantages to working from home, I find that it is often difficult to keep up the same amount of productivity. A late start, a ‘short’ break, a quick nap; all of these are risks when working from home. However, a simple yet elegant solution is to keep up with your ‘getting ready for work’ routine. So when you wake up, actually make the effort to dress up into outfits that are appropriate for work so that you don’t stay in your pyjama mindset throughout the day. This will help you feel more ready for the day ahead and even boost your productivity as you aren’t a step away from falling back into bed. Here are some outfit ideas that are sure to make you feel confident, comfy and professional.
Comfy bottom, professional top
The most obvious way to go about this, is to have that chic upper body look with some casual pants. Sweatpants are super popular in this regard and would work well with a lot of different styles. Styling this with an open shirt and a skin-tight t-shirt would give off exactly that comfy yet professional look. You could also opt for a nice pair of leggings paired up with a shirt or blouse. Loose-fitting jeans or any type of airy cotton pants would do as well.
One of the best ways to elevate your look is by accessorising your outfit. A pair of nice earrings, a fancy necklace or some nice rings could do wonders in making your rather casual outfit seem a lot more upscale. One of my personal favourite accessories is a headband or head scarf tied around your hair that really manages to make an outfit a lot more exciting. Everytime I wear one of these items I feel as though it really ties my whole look together making me seem a lot more put together than I probably am.
There is something about cardigans that make them perfect for the comfy yet professional look. Moreover, layering is the best way to make your outfit look classier. The cardigan is also a fairly diverse piece of clothing, meaning you can probably use it for a lot of your outfits. You can opt for a long cardigan that goes down to the middle of your thigh for a sleek, clean look, one draped over one of your favourite t-shirts for a bit more personality or just a buttoned up cardigan paired with a nice set of earrings.
While dresses are somewhat of a hassle to wear outside, in the comfort of your home, they can be a lot more forgiving. The t-shirt dress is one of the best options here as it is simple and comfy and can be styled in various ways to make it look more professional. With something as simple as a fancy belt, it can be transformed into an entirely different beast. You could even pair this with a corset belt and even switch out the t-shirt dress for a long shirt dress.
Something that is guaranteed to make you feel powerful and as if you can take on the world is a jumpsuit. It will give you that supreme range of motion while also making you look very chic and stylish. While the hardest thing about jumpsuits is the process it takes for you to be able to use the washroom, however, at home, it won’t be as big an issue since you’re not keeping a queue of people from using the washroom.
Shoes are one of the most important parts of this entire process, as it really is the sign your body needs to emphasize that you are leaving the house. By putting them on, you are effectively tricking your body into thinking that you are going to work. However, when it comes to what type of shoes to wear, I feel like the rule is anything but flip flops. Regular sneakers are always a good option but aim to try and keep switching it up as often as you can.
