Will Prostitution, Casinos be legal there? – SJB
By Nabiya Vaffoor
The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) on Sunday (4) questioned whether prostitution would be legalised in the Colombo Port City and if permission would be granted for casinos as well.
SJB MP Ajith Perera urged the Government to re-look at the legislation which had been gazetted to set up an institution to administer the Colombo Port City, stating that this legislation would convert the Port City into a separate administrative Unit.
“Prostitution was legal wherever there were casinos in every part of the world and they wondered whether it would be the same in the Colombo Port City as well,” added Perera.
In the meantime, Perera alleged that the country might get divided similar to China and Hong Kong.
“People living in apartments within the city will have a different set of laws while existing laws will apply to other dwellers in Colombo,” he added.
He also suggests that the Government should look into the geo-political situation when putting laws and regulations in place on Port City.
