Sports WI closes at 224/9 on rain-interrupted day

West Indies avoided follow-on, but are still 165 runs behind Sri Lanka as rain interrupted much of play on day three of the first Test in Galle.

WI were 224 for nine, after resuming from 113 for six yesterday (22).

Kyle Mayers made 46 and Rakheem Cornwall hit 39, while Jason Holder contributed 36 runs.

Bowling honours for Sri Lanka went to the spinners, with Ramesh Mendis taking three for 75 and Praveen Jayawickrama having three for 38.

Dhananjaya de Silva, Lasith Embuldeniya and Suranga Lakmal claimed the three other wickets to fall.

Sri Lanka posted 386 in their first innings.
