Wellawatte Police found around 15,000 Qurans in a storehouse of an international school in Wellawatte. The store was searched on a tip-off given to the Wellawatte Police on 2 April.
Meanwhile, Secretary to the Ministry of Public Security, Major General Jagath Alwis said suspicions were raised because the import of the stock of Qurans was not documented in any of the Customs records.
He said further investigations will continue and the contents in the books will be checked, while the importers too will be checked out. Meanwhile, the storehouse was sealed until the contents in the books were verified, he said. Several other books were also taken into custody.
