Welgama and Harin lock horns

A verbal confrontation occurred between SJB MPs Kumara Welgama and Harin Fernando in Parliament yesterday (22), over Welgama’s remarks made in the House on 19 November.
Welgama on 19 November alleged that some MPs try to show that they are very brave by making many remarks in the Parliament Chamber. “However, when they step outside Parliament, they admit themselves to private hospitals because they fear the Police and the CID. That is the truth about some MPs. But this Welgama is not someone like them,” he said.
In response to this, Fernando yesterday (22) said it was unfortunate that an MP on the same side made claims like those. “It is true that I was admitted to a hospital for a surgery. Welgama says that I lied. If he wants I can show the scars on my chest too.
If it happened in Badulla I could have died because there are no facilities in the Badulla Hospital.” Welgama responded, “I said some MPs admit themselves to hospitals, but I did not name anyone.
I am not responsible for him being offended by my statement. However, he launched an attack on me using a monk on Sunday (21). The monk said Welgama is insulting the President in Parliament. I am not scared of anyone. You can complain about me to 10 CIDs, but I am not scared.”
