Weather: Showers, strong winds expected today
The Department of Meteorology stated that showers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and North Western Provinces and in the Galle and Matara Districts today (29).
Several spells of showers may occur in the Northern and North-central Provinces as well, the Department said, adding that showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the Uva Province, and in the Batticaloa and Ampara Districts, after 2 p.m. today.
Fairly heavy rainfalls about 75 mm are likely at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central Provinces and in the Galle and Matara Districts.
Strong winds of about 40-50 kmph can be expected across the island, particularly in the Northern, North-central and North-western Provinces, Trincomalee and Hambantota Districts, and in the western slopes of the Central Hills.
The Department requested the general public to take adequate precautions to minimise damages caused by temporary localised strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
