Weather: showers predicted islandwide
Showers are expected to occur at times in the Sabaragamuwa, Central, Western, Southern, and North-Western Provinces today (09), while thundershowers may occur in the Uva Province after 2:00 p.m., according to the Meteorological Department.
"Fairly heavy rainfall above 75 mm is likely at some places in Sabaragamuwa, Western and Central Provinces as well as in Galle and Matara Districts," the Met Department stated.
"Wind speeds can increase up to 40-50 kmph at times over the island, particularly in Northern, North-central and North-western provinces, as well as in the Hambantota, Trincomalee and Matale Districts, and along the western slopes of the central hills."
"Coastal inundation is likely along the coast extending from Beruwala to Hambantota via Galle due to the effect of swell waves. People who are living in coastal areas are requested to be vigilant in this regard," warned the Met Department.
