Heavy showers predicted across Sri Lanka
Showers are predicted to occur in the Sabaragamuwa, Central, Western, Southern and North-Western Provinces today (07), according to the Meteorological Department.
"Fairly heavy rainfall of about 50 mm is likely at some places in the Sabaragamuwa, Central Provinces, as well as in Galle, Matara and Kalutara Districts," stated the Department.
"Wind speeds can increase up to 50-60 kmph at times over the island particularly in Northern, North-central and North-western Provinces as well as in Hambantota, Trincomalee and Matale Districts and along the western slopes of the central hills."
"Coastal inundation is likely along the coast extending from Beruwala to Hambantota via Galle due to the effect of swell waves, hence people living in coastal areas are requested to be vigilant in this regard," warned the Met Department.
Bad weather across the island resulted in several instances of injury and property damage yesterday (06), and the Disaster Management Centre warned that such conditions would continue.
