Weather forecasting to be made more user-friendly
The Department of Meteorology is streamlining its weather forecasting system to be more user-friendly.
According to the department, the public will be able to receive the real-time weather information with geographical map to their smartphones through a simple mobile application.
It will help them carry out day-to-day activities and understand the risk of any possible weather hazards.
The four-year streamlining project is being carried with technical expertise from the Japan International Cooperation Agency, for which an agreement was signed recently.
That will include the setting up of two weather radars in Puttalam and Pottuvil and support for capacity building of meteorological staff with technical training in Japan.
