Weather forecast: expect rains

The Meteorology Department yesterday (8) said showers or thundershowers could occur in most parts of the country today (9) morning.
Based on current atmospheric conditions, the Department predictss howers or thundershowers can be expected in several places in Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and Galle and Matara districts in the evening or night.
Fairly heavy spells of above 75 millimetres can be expected at some places in these regions.
The public should be cautious of possible temporary heavy winds and lightning strikes and are also advised to take adequate precaution to minimise possible damage.
Showers or thundershowers are expected today in the seas from Trincomalee extending to Hambantota via Batticaloa and Pottuvil.
Showers or thundershowers can be expected in seas surrounding the island in the evening or night.
Wind velocity is expected to be from 10 to 30 kmph from North Easterly direction surrounding the island. Wind velocity is expected to be increased from 30 to 40 kmph at times in the seas from Trincomalee extending to Colombo via Kankesanturai, Mannar and Puttalam and the seas from Galle to Hambantota. Conditions at sea would remain moderate at times and seas surrounding the island would remain fair.
