Cyclone NIVAR's impact on SL gradually decreasing: Met Dept

The Meteorology Department states that the cyclonic storm 'NIVAR', located over southwest Bay of Bengal, is making landfall off the coast Tamil Nadu, India, and is moving northwestwards.
The storm is gradually weakening, the Department said, adding that the storm's influence on Sri Lanka's weather will also gradually decrease.
Several spells of showers will occur in the North-western, Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the Jaffna, Mannar, Galle and Matara districts today (26).
Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the Uva province and in the Ampara and Batticaloa districts after 2 p.m. today (26).
The Department requests the general public to take adequate precautions to minimise damages caused by temporary localised strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
