Sri Lanka Test and ODI captain Dimuth Karunaratne is confident of a strong comeback to the international arena and said the team is well prepared for any upcoming series. This was revealed at a Media briefing on Thursday (24) in Colombo.
Commenting on their preparations for the upcoming series the skipper said: “As players we can only keep practising at this moment. We were engaged in practices since April. We are shaping well and ready for whatever series we can play.”
“Few of the expected series had to be postponed due to the COVID virus, but we continued our practices and still maintaining that momentum. We are prepared for any series and if we could get chance to play, me and my team are ready and looking forward to play and hoping the Bangladesh tour will also go as planned with the permission of the Health Ministry,” the skipper said, replying to a query about preparations for the Bangladesh tour. The Islanders last played an international match in March when England toured Sri Lanka, which was later called off amid the coronavirus pandemic.
So far, cricket tours by England, South Africa and India to the island have been postponed due to COVID-19. Sri Lanka was also scheduled to host the Asia Cup this year, but that too has been indefinitely postponed.
Having played only two series so far, Sri Lanka is currently in sixth place on the WTC table with 80 points to their name. India currently holds the top position comfortably after securing a humongous 360 points in four series, while Australia are in second spot.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) announced on Thursday (24) that Cristal and Life, two brands coming under My Cola Beverages Ltd., is the ‘Official Bottled Drinking Water Partner,’ of SLC.
My Cola’s latest entry comes in addition to its existing partnership with SLC, where the beverage firm acts as the ‘Official Carbonated Beverages Partner of Sri Lanka Cricket’.
Under the agreement with SLC, My Cola Beverages will have the exclusive bottled drinking water availability rights within each stadium and match locations during the term, which shall include the right to engage in the sale and distribution of bottled water to the general public. In return, the company will provide bottled water to players, officials, guests and VIPs at hospitality enclosures, accredited journalists, Media persons and TV crew during all international matches. This is also apart from making a significant investment towards the promotion of the game of cricket in Sri Lanka.
