The State-owned National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWSDB) recorded a net profit of Rs 532.9 million during the year (2020) compared to a loss of Rs 1.2 billion recorded in the previous year (2019), Central Bank of Sri Lanka’s 2020 Annual Report which was released on Friday, stated.
“This was largely due to the increase in total revenue during the period under review,” it said. In related developments, 122,733 new water supply connections were provided by the NWSDB, and as at end 2020 there were 2.6 million connections. Further, access to safe drinking water in Sri Lanka increased to 93.2 per cent in 2020 from 91.9 per cent in the previous year.
However, during the year, NWSDB’s/country’s non-revenue water usage declined only slightly to 24.6 per cent from 25.1 per cent in 2019, CBSL said.
