Violating quarantine laws: Police arrest 56

Police conducted special raids on 2 May on parks, beaches and restaurants in the Western Province and arrested 56 individuals who violated various quarantine laws, Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said. The operation was conducted from 3.00 p.m. to 6.00 p.m. by the Police in order to monitor public discipline in connection with observing health guidelines and quarantine rules and regulations.
DIG Rohana said that over 1,000 locations were inspected and over 6,000 persons were checked by the Police during the raids. Several suspects were taken into Police custody for not adhering to social distancing rules and regulations, for participating in public gatherings which did not observe health guidelines and selling food products without following the sanitary requirements. In addition, DIG Rohana said that 4,306 persons were warned during the raid and he added that such operations will be constantly conducted by the Police to reduce the spread of COVID-19 in the country.
