Vietnam to focus on aiding Sri Lankan Fisheries and Agricultural sectors

During a farewell call on Foreign Minister Dinesh Gunawardena on 12 January 2021, the Ambassador of Vietnam in Colombo, Pham ThiBich Ngoc noted that Sri Lanka and Vietnam have immense potential for cooperation in the agriculture and fisheries sectors.
The Ambassador stated that Vietnam is willing to share their practices, knowledge, and technology with Sri Lanka, adding that such contributions towards the fishing sector will uplift rural fishing and the fishing farms in both Batticaloa and Mullaithivu.
In relation to the contribution towards the Agricultural sector, the Vietnamese Ambassador stated that there lies great potential for the cultivation of rubber, coffee, and pepper, towards which Vietnam will be able to provide aid and instructions.
Minister Gunawardena emphasized the importance of strengthening ties in areas of tourism, democracy, and education cooperation, stating that it is important to pursue a Preferential Trade Agreement in order to advance trade relations between the two countries.
