In a bid to rekindle the spirit of football in Sri Lanka, Vantage has stepped forward to sponsor the Inaugural FFSL President’s Cup 2020, which is scheduled to kick start from 9 August behind closed doors.

Vantage, a leading fashion brand of Ebony Holdings (Pvt.) Ltd., is a top sports promoter and main sponsor of the Sri Lanka’s oldest Football League, the ‘FA Cup’, for the last couple of years. Ebony Holdings is one of Sri Lanka’s premier clothing suppliers and boasts a comprehensive distribution network spanning across the island. The brand’s commitment to quality and exceptional service has earned a higher scale of reputation from its ever growing, loyal customer base.

The inaugural invitational tournament is organised by Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL), with FFSL offering financial support to all participating 20 teams to cover their preparation, participation and travelling costs to reach Colombo for matches.

20 teams divided into 5 groups will compete for supremacy at the Race Course and Sugathadasa Stadium, where each team will have three matches at the group stage before they head into the quarter-finals. All 20 participating teams were chosen based on their performance at the last edition of the Dialog Champions League.

Although lower division competitions and the FA Cup were played during the last two years, the most awaited Major League Football returning to Sri Lanka is an opportunity for all participating clubs to showcase their skills, as they had no proper tournament in the last two years due to various reasons, including the Easter Sunday attacks followed by torrential rain in the latter part of 2019 and then the present pandemic.

However, FFSL will also have the opportunity of scouting for young talented players when they represent their clubs at this tournament, and who are waiting for an opportunity to showcase their talent at competition level.

Teams and Groups:

Group A - Blue Star SC, Up Country Lions SC, Java Lane SC, Moragasmulla SC

Group B - Renown SC, Matara City Club, New Youngs FC, New Star SC

Group C - Defenders FC, Red Stars FC, Saunders SC, Super Sun SC

Group D - Sea Hawks FC, Ratnam SC, SL Police SC, Serendib SC

Group E - Colombo FC, Blue Eagles SC, Crystal Palace FC, SLTB SC
