US State Secretary Pompeo to start four-nation Asian tour tomorrow
United States (US) Secretary of State Michael Pompeo together with US Defence Secretary Mark Esper, will commence his four-nation Asian tour tomorrow (25) with India, followed by Sri Lanka, Maldives and Indonesia.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Relations, Pompeo will arrive in Sri Lanka on 28 October.
During his visit in Colombo, he is scheduled to meet President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and Foreign Minister Dinesh Gunawardena to emphasise the US commitment to a strong, independent, and democratic Sri Lanka.
“We want to partner with Sri Lanka on our shared goals of sustainable economic development and a free and open Indo-Pacific,” US Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs, Dean Thompson said Thursday (22).
