UPPR takes Lohan’s case to UN
By Keerthi Mendis
The Union for the Protection of Prisoner Rights (UPPR) yesterday handed over a written complaint to the Secretary General of the UN, to force the Government of Sri Lanka to initiate an independent inquiry into the incident where former State Minister Lohan Ratwatte has allegedly visited Prisons and intimidated inmates, while being in a drunken stupor.
The UPPR has alleged the Government was delaying instituting legal action against the State Minister over his drunken antics at the two Prisons. Hence, they have urged the UN Secretary General to intervene and exert pressure on the Government to institute legal action against Ratwatte and mete out justice to the inmates who had suffered at his hands.
