UNP-SJB split a ploy to hoodwink masses – Gammanpila

The split between the UNP and the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) or the conflict between UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe and SJB Leader Sajith Premadasa is a ploy to mislead the public, alleged Pivithuru Hela Urumaya (PHU) Leader Udaya Gammanpila.
He said the UNP sacked a number of members from their Party but not Premadasa who had created a separate alliance to compete with the UNP, which raises many questions as to why Premadasa had not been sacked.
Addressing the Media, Gammanpila alleged that the end of this drama will be revealed following the General Election, and the two Parties will come together and continue to work together.
“I left the Jathika Hela Urumaya on 11 December 2014 and formed the PHU. But we did not worry about the membership of the JHU, because we left it for good. But Wickremesinghe and Premadasa are engaged in a conspiracy to get the votes of those disappointed with Wickremesinghe to Premadasa,” he claimed.
Speaking about the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Compact, Gammanpila pledged that no matter what, they will never sign the MCC Compact at any point as had been promised before.
However, Gammanpila alleged that ‘extremists’ such as former Minister Rishad Bathiudeen and former Parliamentarian M.A. Sumanthiran are not actually with Wickremesinghe but with Premadasa. “Therefore, just as the UNP was the breeding ground for Tamil separatism and Muslim extremism in the past, it is the SJB that is nurturing Muslim extremism and strengthening Tamil separatism,” he further alleged.
