Unable to proceed with charges against Karannagoda : AG
Senior State Counsel Janaka Bandara today (04) informed the Colombo High Court Trial-at-Bar that the Attorney General's Department will not proceed with the abduction charges against former Navy Commander Admiral of the Fleet Wasantha Karannagoda.
The case was taken up before a trial-at- bar comprising Judges Champa Janaki Rajaratne, Amal Ranaraja and Navaratne Marasinghe.
The AG's Department filed indictments against Karannagoda and 13 others over the abduction and enforced disappearances of 11 youths from several areas, including Wellawatte, Kotahena, Trincomalee and Madakalapuwa, between 08 August 2008 and 21 September 2009.
Karannagoda later filed a writ petition before the Court of Appeal, seeking an annulment of the charges levelled against him.
Accordingly, no further action will be taken on the charges against Karannagoda until the Court of Appeal examines the application and is able to deliver a final ruling in this regard.
