Udarata Menike & Denuwara Menike resumes operations
In a statement made by the Central Province Railway Superintendent, Ananda Karunaratne, the 'Udarata Menike' and 'Denuwara Menike' trains that were suspended for more than three months due to the spread of the coronavirus, resumed operations today (25).
He added that the 'Podi Menike' train has been running since last week.
The trains run in accordance with the health guidelines, he stated, adding that when the 'Udarata Menike' and 'Denuwara Menike' trains from Colombo Fort to Badulla arrived at the Hatton Railway Station, a large number of passengers had gathered at the station whilst obeying COVID-19 regulations.
A new train named 'Senkadagala Menike' has been introduced to the daily service from Colombo Fort to Nanu Oya at 12.40 pm, and is scheduled to reach Hatton at around 08:20 pm every night.
The Central Provincial Superintendent of Railways further stated that the night mail train from Colombo Fort to Badulla has also been added to the service from today (25).
