The Urban Development Authority (UDA) is to reconstruct and renovate the Gaffoor Building at Colombo Fort, to transform it into a luxury hotel, said the UDA Deputy Director General M.C. Withanaarachchi.

He said the renovation work on this building was started in early 2012, for a different purpose and then the idea was forgotten for more than five years.

We were advised to make use of this valuable piece of real estate and we proposed that a luxury hotel be built in place of the dilapidated building that existed there.

The project to reconstruct the building commenced last week and would be completed in mid July 2022 complete with all the amenities of a luxury hotel.

The UDA would get the assistance of the Sri Lanka Navy to build the hotel while the Moratuwa University will help with the structural work with the UDA being in overall charge of the project and funding the construction with Rs 680 million having already been spent as part of a Rs 900 million project cost.
