U.S. Department of State to continue with LTTE embargo

The U.S. Department of State has stated that it has decided to keep LTTE on the list of foreign terrorist organizations for 2021. Accordingly, the embargo on the LTTE continues to apply in the United States.
The U.S. State Department has recently taken steps to revise its list of 'foreign terrorist organizations'. The organization has been listed as a foreign terrorist organization in the United States since 10 August 1997.
The U.S. State Department added Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, an Afghan-based jihadist organization, and ISIL Sinai Peninsula, an Islamic militant group based in the Sinai Peninsula in Egypt, to its list of foreign terrorist organizations since last year.
The move comes as 11 parties and organizations, including the Tamil National Alliance (TNA), have called on the UN Human Rights Commission to set up an appropriate mechanism to investigate war crimes.
