Two remanded for trafficking a minor

Two suspects have been taken into custody for procuring and trafficking of a 15-year-old minor to various parties in Colombo, Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said.
The Mount Lavinia Police arrested a 35-year old suspect in connection to the offence and after the suspect was produced before the Moratuwa Magistrate he was remanded. Activities of procuration were conducted through the cyber space and the girl was trafficked for a period of three months to various parties according to DIG Rohana. Under the instructions of the IGP, the investigation was handed over to the Children and Women’s Bureau of Police.
According to the investigation and a detailed statement obtained from the victim, various parties sexually exploited the girl at various locations. DIG Rohana added that another female suspect was arrested in connection to this crime. The female suspect who was a resident of the Madapatha area was produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate on 16 June and has been remanded.
According to the Police Children and Women’s Bureau, multiple other parties are connected to the crime. Special teams have been deployed by Police to conduct further investigations and trace the other suspects according to the phone numbers and other details received during the preliminary investigation, DIG Rohana said.
