Two Garment Factories in N-Eliya closed

A garment factory at Kotmale, in the Nuwara Eliya District, was temporarily shut down, from yesterday (11), after 69 workers were confirmed to be infected with COVID-19. Those who tested positive for COVID-19 were from the Nuwara Eliya, Pusalla, Ravanagoda, Nawalapitiya and Kotmale areas.
The closure was in order to control the spread, the management of the factory said. Sixty nine were confirmed virus-positive following rapid antigen tests conducted on their 799 employees on Monday (10).
The PHIs had urged the management to close down the garment factory following the test results. Meanwhile, Maskeliya Health authorities have sealed another garment factory, in Norwood, indefinitely after nine workers were tested positive. The garment factory was disinfected by the Norwood Pradeshiya Sabha. Six people were identified as infected following PCR tests conducted on 25 people and nine were identified during the antigen test conducted on 100 people. Another 260 workers undergo PCR tests and it will be decided whether to open the factory or not, the health department officials said yesterday (11).
