Two arrested over scam

Dehiwala Police arrested a woman and a man who deceived the public over a seven-year period, where the woman has pretended to be specialist Dr. Anoma Jayathilaka, attached to the New Delhi Office of the World Health Organisation.
Besides the two suspects, the Police have also taken into custody a book containing telephone numbers stolen by the suspects from a doctor’s residence and a three-wheeler used by the suspects.
Dehiwala Police OIC H.L. Dushmantha said, following inquiries conducted into complaints lodged, they called the woman on the pretext of lending her money, and arrested the couple when they arrived at an arranged location.
Upon interrogation of the woman, the Police found that the suspect had worked at the doctor’s house as a domestic help seven years ago and left the place, stealing the book containing the telephone numbers. Police added that the woman suspect while posing off as the doctor had cheated scores of people of their cash while they noted that the man arrested along with her is her paramour.
Police said that the woman is aged 58 while the man is aged 52 and that they are both residents of Miriswatta, Piliyandala.
