Twin male calves, the first semi-domesticated twin elephant births in Sri Lanka have been named Disa and Sajjana.

They were born on 31 August 2021 to Surangi at the Pinnawala elephant orphanage.

Another cub, born at the same facility a fortnight later was named Neelamani.

The calves were named yesterday (12) at a ceremony attended by MP Kanaka Herath and director general of the Zoological Gardens Department, Sharmila Rajapaksha.

Sri Lanka’s firstever twin elephant birth, after 80 years, took place at the Minneriya National Park in 2020.
