By Buddhika Samaraweera
Ayurvedic doctors and staff should be properly trained to treat patients infected with the COVID-19 virus, said the Vice President of the Government Ayurvedic Doctors’ Association, Dr. P. Hewagamage.
He further said, necessary arrangements should be made to ensure the safety of the doctors and staff involved. Adding that the Ayurveda Hospital in Borella has a complex with unopened wards; Dr. Hewagamage said it can be used for residential treatment of patients infected with the virus.
When asked about the conditions under which the Ayurvedic treatment is designed, he said, treatment available is for patients with the virus, but, do not show symptoms. However, he said, the Ministry of Health should intervene and provide the necessary training to the Ayurvedic doctors and staff, as they have not been involved with such treatment before.
"We have not yet received the necessary clarifications to such practical problems, but are in discussions with relevant authorities to bring about a solution for them. We hope that they will intervene and provide necessary answers," he added.
