Vehicles to use alternative routes to reduce Baseline Road traffic
Sri Lanka Police have requested that several alternate routes be used instead of the Baseline and Port Entry Roads, owing to the construction of the New Kelani Bridge.
Issuing a statement, the Police noted that severe traffic congestions were reported recently in the mornings and evenings along the Baseline Road and surrounding areas, due to the final stages of construction of the New Kelani Bridge.
Therefore, vehicles arriving in Colombo via the below-mentioned routes have been advised to use alternative routes:
1) Vehicles entering via Kandy Road are to use the Nawaloka Roundabout, Thotalanga Junction, Prince of Wales Avenue or Bloemendhal Road route
2) Vehicles entering via Negombo Road are to use the Aluth Mawatha route from the Kadirana Bridge
3) Vehicles entering via the Old Avissawella Road are to proceed to Prince of Wales Avenue from Stace Road, Kosgas Junction and Layard’s Broadway
