The ongoing travel restrictions, imposed countrywide, will be lifted at 4 a.m. on 14 June, Head of the National Centre for the Eradication of COVID-19, Army Commander General Shavendra Silva said. He however added, the ban on inter-provincial travel will continue until further notice. Gen Silva also noted the public will be allowed outdoors only based on the last digit of their NICs.

He said further details in this connection will be released to the public in the coming days. The Army Commander also said these decisions had been reached following consultations with the health authorities, by taking into account the ground situation of the COVID-19 pandemic.

He stressed certain comments posted on social media platforms, that the ongoing travel restrictions will not be relaxed on 14 June were baseless and advised the public to always trust official statements made by the Government.
