To store information of train commuters: Launch digital platform – SLSMU

By Buddhika Samaraweera
General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Station Masters' Union (SLSMU), Kasun Chamara, said the Department of Railways should launch a digital platform to store the information of train passengers accurately and securely, in the backdrop of COVID-19 cases soaring. He said there should be a comprehensive programme to ensure the health of Railway Department officials and passengers.
He said a number of Railway Department employees have also been diagnosed with the virus. In such a context, he said, a system was needed to accurately record the information of passengers arriving at railway stations and travelling by trains.
He further said although the trade union had been submitting a number of proposals to the department regarding the programmes which need to be implemented, it has not received a satisfactory response. “In the current situation, it was very important to have a system in place to store the information of train passengers accurately and securely using a digital platform,” he pointed out.
