To attract more foreign students: SL needs to improve immigration laws
Highlighting that Sri Lanka has much potential to attract a large number of foreign students; a senior businessman said that Sri Lanka needed to improve the country’s immigration policies to facilitate inbound student mobility.
According to Ceylinco Life – Education Sector Chairman Dr. Jagath Alwis, industry players believe that the present Government will take the necessary steps to promote Sri Lanka as an ‘education hub’ to attract foreign students to study in Sri Lanka which could be a major foreign exchange earner.
It is easy for Sri Lanka to attract foreign students to pursue international Degree programmes in Sri Lanka at a fraction of the cost compared to travelling to the country of the respective partner Universities.
Sri Lanka was enjoying a good number of foreign students during the past, however, the numbers were badly affected due to the Easter Sunday bombings and further deteriorated due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
