Terrorism Investigation Division (TID) arrested two suspects in Kattankudy on 2 April for spreading Wahhabism and extremist ideology. The 28-year-old and 29-year-old were deported from Qatar for spreading extremist ideologies in the country, Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said.
The two suspects were among six individuals who were deported on 21 November and the four other suspects have already been taken into the TID custody.
When further investigations were conducted it was found that all six suspects had created a WhatsApp group named ‘One Ummah’ through which Wahhabism ideology were circulated, DIG Rohana said. He added that various Media networks were set up by the suspects in order to release video footage of Zaharan Hashim taking a pledge of alliance. The footage was shared by the suspects before the Easter Sunday Bombings. The two suspects are detained in the TID under provisions of the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA). Further investigations are underway, DIG Rohana said.
