Thushan never held post - Alagiyawanna
BY Faadhila Thassim
Refuting Media reports that the Executive Director of the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) is to step down, State Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna stated that it was CAA full time member Thushan Gunawardena who had handed over his resignation yesterday (21). Alagiyawanna added that the CAA Chairman had accepted the resignation and handed over the response to Gunawardena.
He said Gunawardena was one of the three fulltime members appointed to the CAA and added that although Gunawardena posed off to the Media as Executive Director or Director General of the CAA he did not hold such a post. Gunawardena cited the pressure he faced after taking a stand against irregularities taking place that prompted his resignation. Alagiyawanna refuted these allegations and said he would make a statement in this regard during the CAA amendments debate.
