Local Three arrested for smuggling over 520kg of dried turmeric

The Sri Lankan Navy arrested three suspects for smuggling over 520kg of dried turmeric in the sea area of Mundalampiddi, Mannar, on Wednesday (16). 

The stock of dried turmeric stuffed in 12 sacks was seized by the North Central Naval Command when the suspects were attempting to transfer the consignment by boat (Wallam) in the above sea area.

The suspected were identified as residents of Palleimunai in Mannar, aged between 22-25. 

Further, the seized stock of dried turmeric and the boat had been disinfected in accordance with COVID-19 guidelines stipulated by health authorities and will be handed over to the Jaffna Customs Office for further investigation.
