Committee appointed to probe Indian fishermen issue

Fisheries Minister Douglas Devananda has appointed a three-member committee to make recommendations on Indian fishermen's issues. The Ministry of Fisheries issued a press release in this regard today (25).
Accordingly, the committee comprising of senior Government officials will hold discussions with the Ministry of Fisheries and Fisheries Department officials, representatives of fishermen's associations, and the Coast Guard to make recommendations to the Ministry of Fisheries to find a permanent solution to stop the illegal fishing activities of Indian fishermen in Sri Lankan waters.
Sri Lankan fishermen are facing many difficulties due to the illegal activities of Indian fishermen and Lankan marine resources are being destroyed.
As a result, Sri Lankan fishermen have been protesting demanding an immediate end to such illegal activities.
