Three in custody with 3,400 pulse-oximeters illegally imported

The Central Anti-Vice Striking Unit in Walana, Panadura arrested three suspects on 10 June for illegally importing a large stock of pulse oximeters, Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said. Police found a total of 3,400 pulse oximeters in the raid, which were taken into Police custody, DIG Rohana went on to say.
The Police had received information regarding the illegally imported stock of equipment and had conducted a raid soon after. The stock of pulse oximeters had been imported without obtaining permission from the National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA), Police investigations had revealed.
DIG Rohana noted that these pulse oximeters are medical equipment used to identify the oxygen saturation rate in a patient’s blood. The raid was conducted in Colombo 12 and Police took the three suspects, the stock of pulse oximeters and the vehicles used for transporting this equipment, into custody. DIG Rohana further added that the Central Anti-Vice Striking Unit in Walana, Panadura is continuing investigations into the incident along with support from the NMRA.
