News Three dead, five missing, in drowning incidents

Police reported three deaths, five missing, and two injured due to drowning and near drowning related accidents that took place in various parts of Sri Lanka on Sunday (5).

Deaths due to drowning were reported from Mullaitivu and Peradeniya. Two of the five missing, from the aforesaid Mullaitivu accident, another two missing, a mother aged 20 and her two-year-old daughter from the Peradeniya accident and the other missing, from Garandiella, Kuruwita, who is feared drowned, a 32-year-old. The two injured were also from the aforementioned Peradeniya accident.

The Mullaitivu accident took place off the seas in the area. The deceased was identified as being 26 years old and the two missing, each as 27 years old.

Meanwhile, the Peradeniya accident took place while bathing in the Mahaweli River flowing through the area, where the single death reported was that of a 20-year-old, while the two injured from this near drowning accident are receiving treatment at the Gampola Hospital.

In related developments, the suspected drowned person at Garandiella whose body is yet to be found has been identified as that of a 38-year-old.
