Those who gazetted quarantine law breaking it – SJB
By Nabiya Vaffoor
Parliament that gazetted the quarantine law in the first place will be breaking it, claimed Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) General Secretary and Parliamentarian Ranjith Maddumabandara.
“There is only half a metre distance in between MPs. There aren’t any steps to perform polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests in Parliament yet. Ministers usually visit different areas and if one of them contracts COVID-19 we are all in danger.
“During the first wave of COVID-19, the President didn’t convene Parliament because of the pandemic’s spread, but now, during the second wave, which is considered to be more dangerous than the first, the President is trying to pass the 20th Amendment to the Constitution,” he claimed.
Maddumabandara expressed these views on 19 October while addressing a Media briefing at the SJB headquarters.
