The Sri lounge’ sponsors Hammer Thrower Ayesha
Upul Tharanga’s ‘The Sri lounge’ has come forward to sponsor former Hammer Throw National record holder Ayesha Maduwanthi, who currently studies and trains in Australia. Maduwanthi (32) has been the National Champion for many years.
She renewed her own record several times over the years before moving to Australia. Maduwanthi resumed her training there and competed at the Australian Open Finals this year, where Melbourne-based restaurant ‘The Sri lounge’ co-owned by Upul Tharanga, came forward to sponsor her. “Today is a great milestone in my life as an athlete.
The event ‘Hammer Throw’ was started in 2014 for the first time in Sri Lanka, and from then on, from time to time, I was able to be the record holder of my country, but sad to say that I was never sponsored. I’m so fortunate to be the first Sri Lankan hammer thrower who participated at an international event. Currently I reside in Australia for studies, and apart from my studies, I’m privileged to have the opportunity to train with well experienced coaches, past and present.
Moreover, I’m proud to say that I was able to participate in each and every hammer throw event here in Australia. “I would like to thank Upul Tharanga and the team from ‘The Sri lounge’ for inspiring me and sponsoring me to keep working hard, and also would like to thank Ganaga Fernando,” said Maduwanthi.
